Soybean prior to oil extraction is referred to as Full Fat Soybean. Roasted Full Fat Soybean is an adequately heat processed whole soybean. It contains complete amount of oil and protein naturally present in soybeans. They valued as a good feed ingredient owing to its high oil and protein content. Properly processed full fat soybeans are a valuable feed ingredient because of their energy, protein, linoleic acid, vitamin E and lecithin contents.
Raw soybeans cannot be used as such for animal feed or human food, because they contain several different antinutritional factors. These factors are: a) Trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitors; b) Phytohaemagglutinins (Lectins); c) Urease; d) Allergenic factors; and e) Lipases and Lipoxygenase.
These factors affect the digestion of soybeans in the stomach. All of the factors can be deactivated, through proper heat treatment to eliminate their adverse effect. This can be accomplished only through optimum processing and good quality control measures.
The processing of soybeans starts with cleaning & cracking. Soybeans are cracked and Roasted subjected to adequate heat processing in an industrial roaster at a particular temperature & pressure for a specified period of time to destroy all anti nutritional factors (Trypsin & Chymotrypsin inhibitors, Haemagglutinins/Lectins, and Saponins) present in raw soybeans. Roasted soybeans are rolled into full-fat flakes, which provide the basis for ground and powdered product. As soybeans are high in protein, they are a major ingredient in livestock & poultry feed. Soy is one of the few plants that provides a complete protein as it contains all eight amino acids essential for animal health.
It can be one of the best high energy, high protein feed ingredient for cattle & poultry feed owing to higher protein , higher oil content , and higher metabolizable energy. It also offers higher amino acids, minerals and vitamin profile. It carries all advantages like increased density of nutrients & enhanced performance etc. Protein and energy value of full fat soybean meal is higher than combination of soybean oil and soybean meal
